Best Frost Mage PvP Talents
These will be your default talents for the damage build as Frost Mage in Cataclysm Season 9. As you may be confused by the selection of these talents, let’s look further into why these talents are chosen.
Make sure to place 31 talent points in your Frost tree before placing them in other trees for this specialization.
While looking at the Frost talent tree, here are the talents gained that increase the performance of Frost Mage.
Shatter is used to optimize your damage output. This increases the damage of your frozen targets when using Frostbolt. In order to freeze them, this can be done with the talent Deep Freeze, Frost Nova, or from Cone of Cold from Improved Cone of Cold.
Enduring Winter for the mana regeneration effect applied to all party members when it procs off Frostbolt.
Frostfire Orb assists Mages with putting targets until chilled effects, as well as providing consistent damage onto the target.
Deep Freeze, providing a 5 second stun usable on any frozen target. This spell does provide damage to targets that are immune from stuns, but is generally not used for this purpose as the stun effect from Deep Freeze is too powerful to lose out on.
Frostfire Orb applies chilled effects constantly on the target, and will increase your procs from Fingers of Frost. This will allow you to either cast Deep Freeze on a non Frozen target, or to spam Ice Lance for extra damage. Not only does this affect Fingers of Frost, but assists with the talent, Brain Freeze, which has a chance to proc a buff to cast an instant Frostfire Bolt. When using an instant cast Frostfire Bolt, it can benefit from Fingers of Frost, making Frostfire Bolts more powerful when using these two talents together.
For the Fire and Arcane Tree, there are a few talents that have been selected to enhance your performance as Frost Mage in Cataclysm PvP.
Impact gives Mages an additional micro stun effect on your direct after using Fire Blast when procced by damaging spells. What makes this talent so impactful is that it is on a separate stun DR, making this mini stun not affect your Deep Freeze stun.
Improved Counterspell will silence your target when affected by Counterspell. This can help you stabilize your team effectively, or to assist in kill windows.
