What’s New for Holy Priests in The War Within?

As we enter onward into the new expansion, a lot of changes have undergone our way, and Priests are no exception to this. Focusing on their talent changes, our class talent tree is the only one where we notice some new spells mixed in, especially Phantom Reach. This talent is a lifesaver for this specialization, as this increases the range of all spells by 15%. This allows them to land their Crowd Control with Holy Word: Chastise quite easily where you wouldn’t be able to land at times, and healing becomes even easier at times where your allies push in a bit farther way than you’d commonly prefer.

Leading onto the bread and butter of The War Within, we have our Hero talents, giving us two completely new trees inside of our talent pane that add to a more exciting playstyle. For Priests, we receive Oracle and Archon, which the latter is considered way more in PvE cases as it focuses around buffing Halo. Oracle, on the other hand, is our recommend pick as it synergizes well with tools we already have in our Priest and Holy talent trees.

Built into Oracle, our most fundamental talent this tree gives us is Premonition. Premonition is a cooldown quite similar to Paladin’s Blessing of the Seasons, as it cycles through spells in it’s own specific fashion, but instead of empowering your target, you’re empowering the effectiveness of your healing spells.

First, we start off with Premonition of Insight for a 7 second cooldown reduction on your next three spells, making it extremely versatile in terms of how you choose to use this. You can spam Prayer of Mending against Affliction Warlocks or Shadow Priests to alleviate spread pressure, mash dispel against setup comps, or in most situations increase the uptime on your major healing cooldowns, Divine Hymn and Spirit of the Redeemer.

Followed by Premonition of Insight, we have Premonition of Piety for some nice buffs to our healing when active, and with one of our new talents, Divine Providence, we have an additional charge, allowing us to combo this with Divine Hymn and Spirit of the Redeemer if we ever choose to do so. Lastly, we have Premonition of Solace for a non-purgeable shield on any target you heal, and Premonition of Clairvoyance, allowing you to use all three at once.

Overall, Holy Priest doesn’t seem quite strong as other healers due to their lack of defensive mitigation, cooldowns, and damage, but this spec can be seen being performed in competitive play at high levels from the most experienced Priests in the game.
