What’s New for Havoc Demon Hunters in The War Within?

As we enter the new expansion, Demon Hunters keep a majority of talents and spells we have all been accustomed to from Dragonflight. The most distinguishable change focuses on our PvP talents, as Chaotic Imprint is now completely removed from our list of options, and even Cleansed By Flame now only removes one magic debuff off ourselves, after using Immolation Aura, instead of removing all magic debuff effects.

But to jump into the main focal point of The War Within, we are now introduced with two new Hero talent builds, as every class receives two to choose from. For Demon Hunters, we have Fel-Scarred and Aldrachi Reaver. These both provide great additions to our toolkit, and can be swapped around depending on our current matchup.

For our most preferred hero build, we recommend using Fel-Scarred, as we receive an abundance of spells from this tree that enhance our rotation without much change. The most potent talent we receive in this build is called Demonsurge, and when paired with our capstone node Demonic Intensity, this effect can be applied from most of our core damaging abilities as long as they haven’t been used once entering Demon Form.

Additionally, this build provides us with way more consistency, as we now receive more benefits outside of Demon Form, primarily from Enduring Torment, which allow us to prioritize more options in our Havoc tree for more Chaos Strike damage.

As for our alternative Hero tree, we have Aldrachi Reaver, providing us with the centerpiece node, Art of the Glaive, to occasionally convert your Throw Glaive into Reaver’s Glaive whenever you use The Hunt or consume 6 Soul Fragments. This grants a considerable boost to your next Chaos Strike and Blade Dance, and on top of that, it makes our second enhanced ability become even more powerful than the first one you end up using.

This build is typically suited for matchups where you’re constantly playing the long game against casters, especially with the Cleansed by Flame nerf making it more difficult to maintain uptime on our selected target.

Overall, Havoc Demon Hunter tends to feel quite similar to its Dragonflight counterpart, but with new ways of delivering sustained burst damage. Most likely, we will continue to see this spec as a strong contender in the competitive scene as the season progresses.
