What’s New for Enhancement Shamans in The War Within?

As always in a new expansion, we are bound to notice some changes in terms of how our specialization plays out. For Enhancement Shaman, the identity has not changed much and continues to keep its role as a support based spec. Aside from its identity, we notice an interesting amount of change in our talents, mainly with our Hero trees; Totemic and Strombringer, which will covered in more detail located at our talents section.

In our class tree, we receive new talents that makes us and our teammates slightly harder to kill, especially with Elemental Resistance, Traveling Storms, and even Stone Bulwark Totem as an absorption that can’t be purged as it once was. Additionally, we only need to place one talent point in Totemic Focus and Totemic Surge to obtain its full effects, allowing us to diversify our talent points in nodes we otherwise wouldn’t be able to in Dragonflight. Lastly, we get our Gust of Wind or Spirit Walk choice node a lot easier without having to pick up talents we don’t need in order to grab it.

Shifting our focus to the spec tree, we experience relative change in patch 11.1. The most dramatic change here being Primordial Wave, as its previous effect with Lightning Bolt has been revoked. Additionally, for all Shaman specs we notice more consistency from Deeply Rooted Elements, making it more worthwhile to use spells that cost high amounts of Maelstrom. Lastly, Elemental Sprits now enhances our physical throughput as opposed to solely buffing damage from a specific element.

Playstyle for Enhancement Shamans

As an Enhancement Shaman you are fulfilled with a variety of ways to deal direct burst, while playing as a hybrid to disrupt pressure in favor of your own and help stabilize your team. Enhancement Shamans typically attempt to take control of the game with Static Field Totem and create high amounts of pressure with Shamanism and Doom Winds for massive direct physical damage.

Enhancement Shaman is heavily global-intensive in its playstyle, meaning you’ll be attempting to deal the highest damage while abusing your utility with Grounding Totem, Wind Shear, Tremor Totem, Thunderstorm, and many other spells.
