What’s New for Enhancement Shamans in The War Within?
As always in a new expansion, we are bound to notice some changes in terms of how our specialization plays out. For Enhancement Shaman, the identity has not changed much and continues to keep its role as a support based spec. Aside from its identity, we notice an interesting amount of change in our talents, mainly with our Hero trees but we will briefly cover soon after.
In our class tree, we receive new talents that makes us and our teammates slightly harder to kill, especially with Elemental Resistance, Traveling Storms, and even Stone Bulwark Totem we can apply as an absorb to ourselves. Additionally, we only need to place one talent point in Totemic Focus and Totemic Surge to obtain its full effects, allowing us to diversify our talent points in nodes we otherwise wouldn’t be able to in Dragonflight. Lastly, we get our Gust of Wind or Spirit Walk choice node a lot easier without having to pick up talents we don’t need in order to grab it.
Shifting our focus to the spec tree, we experience relatively zero change here. However, we become more inclined to select a variety of different talents depending on which Hero tree you select. For Hero trees, we have two to choose from, with those being Totemic and Stormbringer.
Hero Tree: Totemic
Totemic is considered more of our consistent pick, mainly due to our hallmark talent Surging Totem. This applies a tremor near itself for some AoE cleave damage, which becomes even stronger thanks to Pulse Capacitor and Earthsurge if Sundering is used near Surging Totem.
We also receive Whirling Elements for some solid enhancements to our core damaging spells. Not to mention, a majority of these talents located in this Hero tree are passive buffs to overall throughput, such as increased damage and healing while Surging Totem is up, spawning damage-based totems from our Lava Lash, and even more health and a larger radius to all of our totems.
Hero Tree: Stormbringer
Next up, we have Stormbringer. This requires some slight ramp-up in order to benefit off our hallmark talent, Tempest, for a stronger Lightning Bolt that hits nearby targets. This entire tree focuses around buffing your Nature damage, mainly Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Tempest when we receive it.
Additionally, our Tempest spell has a lot of talents that buff its effects, mainly with it summoning a Feral Spirit for some extra damage, and it being usable again from Awakening Storms. Not to mention, we become stronger with our direct and cleave damage thanks to Arc Discharge, granting us some considerable damage buffs to Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning after using Tempest.
