In this section, we will cover what has changed for Devastation Evokers, and what they currently bring to the table. Additionally, we will focus on the overall picture of this spec in the current meta.
What’s New for Devastation Evokers in The War Within?
The core identity of Devastation Evokers remains unchanged as we head into the new expansion, as their primary goal is to oneshot their opponent with Disintegrate and Eternity Surge.
As for our Evoker and Devastation trees, we experience barely any change in terms of our talents, with most of them being the same from Dragonflight. However, we are now introduced to Hero talents with two to choose from; Scalecommander and Flameshaper.
Out of the two, Scalecommander is more of our preferred pick, as its hallmark talent, Mass Disintegrate, makes cleaving a lot easier as our Disintegrate hits up to 3 targets after using any one of our empowered spells. One on our main target, and up to two on anyone nearby. In case we don’t have 3 targets to hit, this will only buff our Disintegrate damage, but with so many pets and minions accessible to even more specs, this will rarely happen.
This also introduces our endcap node, Maneuverability, now allowing us to steer our character while using Deep Breath, making it quite difficult for your opponents to avoid it while active. We also obtain some nice buffs to our defensive spells with Hardened Scales, as well as Bombardments for a bit more AoE damage to targets hit by Mass Disintegrate as long as the targets affected are being attacked by you or your allies.
On the other hand, we have Flameshaper, which tends to lack representation in the current meta as it lacks the amount of cleave damage that Scalecommander offers, while relying heavily on dot maintenance in order to maximize our direct damage with it’s hallmark talent, Engulf.
Although Devastation hasn’t experienced any drastic revisions to their toolkit, they continue to play around what they are naturally good at, raw burst damage. With these changes, we expect Devastation to be quite competitive in the current meta, as they have a strong build that provides relatively strong cleave potential.
