What’s New for Destruction Warlocks in The War Within?
As for Destruction Warlock, we receive a variety of changes located in our talent tree that add some flavor to our rotation and gameplay. Predominantly, we now select Soul Fire in our spec tree with the addition of our new talent, Decimation. This makes it occasionally proc a extremely fast cast time on your next Soul Fire when your direct damaging spell crits, and can stack with Backdraft for an extremely quick cast time.
Not to mention, our survivability has been upgraded quite a bit thanks to our new Pact of Gluttony talent. This allows us to use multiple Healthstones while in combat instead of being locked down to one in an arena matchup.
Aside from our class and spec trees, we receive Hero talents that incorporate even more flavor to our core damaging spells, with us having two to choose from; Hellcaller and Diabolist.
Hellcaller is the preferred pickup here, as it converts our Immolate to Wither and becomes instant cast. Not only do we still benefit off our Immolate modifiers with Wither, making it more efficient to our rotation, but it now stacks for some passive enhancements to its overall damage. We also receive a 1 minute burst cooldown called Malevolence, which makes our globals more fluid thanks to its Haste buff, and makes Wither easier to stack for more direct damage and cleave damage.
Destruction Warlock Playstyle
Overall, the playstyle remains similar to how it was in Dragonflight. You continue using your instant casts as much as possible, especially Wither now to benefit off of Ashen Remains and Flashpoint, to deal some heavy direct damage. Making sure you are constantly using Conflagrate is essential to your rotation, as it maximizes your Backdraft uptime.
