What’s New for Demonology Warlocks in The War Within?
A lot of change has occurred in The War Within, and Demonology Warlocks are no exception to this. What makes Demonology quite different in comparison to its Dragonflight counterpart is that it doesn’t heavily rely on Demonic Tyrant to deal massive burst. A majority of your damage is supplemented by your Vilefiend, which now provide us with massive empowerments to our pets and minions.
Not to mention, we obtain multiple uses of Healthstone in combat to assist us with our survivability, and our rotation becomes more fluid with Doom auto applying to the target we hit with Demonbolt. Occasionally, we can summon a Doomguard once Doom expires, making it beneficial to press Demonbolt on multiple targets.
Now, as for the bread and butter of The War Within, we receive two new Hero talents, to which are Diabolist and Soul Harvester. Although we explore more about our Hero trees in our talents section, it’s important to understand a brief overview of each Hero tree and the main effects they provide.
Hero Tree: Soul Harvester
Soul Harvester is your preferred Hero tree, as the entire tree is based around buffing primary damaging spells. The most impactful talent listed here is Demonic Soul, buffing the damage coming out of your next Hand of Gul’dan when you receive a Succulent Soul, which is generated naturally from your rotation. Upon consuming a Succulent Soul, a Demonic Soul is released and deals some solid direct damage to your selected target.
Not to mention, we receive some solid enhancements to our Demonbolt and Shadow Bolt damage thanks to Necrolyte Teachings, and our survivability becomes slightly stronger with Friends In Dark Places for a bigger Dark Pact absorb shield.
Hero Tree: Diabolist
Diabolist, on the other hand, provides us with a constant flow of new demons we can summon on a rotational basis after spending a Soul Shard. This is from our hallmark talent Diabolic Ritual, which delays them from being summoned at a maximum of 20 seconds. Thankfully, we can constantly reduce this by spending Soul Shards, and is even faster after summoning Demonic Tyrant. Once Diabolic Ritual expires, we receive Demonic Art to summon one of three demons after using Hand of Gul’dan.
Each unique demon we can summon has their own unique spell in order to deal damage. Mother of Chaos and Pit Lord primarily deal single-target damage, but our Overlord demon can deal some hefty cleave damage. We also receive some enhancements to our core damaging spells from Ruination and Secrets of the Coven.
This Hero tree also makes our Demonic Tyrant way more stronger with Abyssal Dominion, making our damage quite lackluster in comparison to Soul Harvester if the opposing team does a good job avoiding it.
