The War Within expands our arsenal of talent options, which include our new talent hero talent trees, Soul Harvester and Diabolist. Let’s go into further detail on how you can make use of these new Hero builds.
Hero Talents: Soul Harvester
Here we have our suggested default build for Demonology Warlock, Soul Harvester. A majority of these talents contribute to your single target and spread pressure burst, giving you more direct damage to execute your preferred target. Now, there are some core talents in this tree that require a bit more explanation in order to conquer the arena.
- Demonic Soul grants you the chance to occasionally generate a Soul Shard with a Succulent Soul. In order to consume Succulent Soul, this requires you to use Hand of Gul’dan, which becomes even stronger upon consuming the soul.
- Quietus, which synergizes with our node above, Shared Fate, providing us with more damage to all nearby targets once we consume Demonic Core. This also buffs our Soul Anathema talent above Shared Fate for a stronger dot to targets affected by our empowered Hand of Gul’dan.
- Sataiel’s Volition not only increases our Wild Imp damage, but makes it easier to generate a Demonic Core. This makes Quietus easier to proc for more Shared Fate damage.
- Shadow of Death grants us 3 Soul Shards with all containing a Succulent Soul when we use Demonic Tyrant. This makes Demonic Tyrant still relevant to our throughput and burst.
Hero Talents: Diabolist
Next up, we have our alternative build, Diabolist. As this build, you’ll want to generate the most amount of Soul Shards to benefit the most out of Diabolic Ritual. This grants us one of three unique demons we can summon on a rotation for a solid damage boost. Depending on who you summon, they can buff some of your core damaging spells for some hefty AoE or single-target damage.
Here are some additional talents in this tree worth noting here.
- Abyssal Dominion makes our Demon Tyrant quite powerful as well as enhancing the damage from our other active demons. This makes Demonic Tyrant more potent to use while Vilefiend and Dreadstalkers are up for some considerable burst.
- Touch of Rancora makes it easier to use Hand of Gul’dan when Demonic Art is active, reducing the possibility of your opponents stopping you from summoning your demon.
- Ruination replaces your next Hand of Gul’dan once Pit Lord is summoned, providing you with some hefty AoE damage near the target you use it on.
If you choose to select Howl of Terror in the class tree against setup compositions or against teams that rely heavily on pets, you can opt for Annihilan’s Bellow to reduce its cooldown and increase its radius.

Warlock Class Talents
In the Warlock Class talent tree, most of your talent choices will be mandatory when advancing onto each tier. Some of most noteworthy mandatory talents are:
- Demon Skin, giving us a 0.2% absorb every second, which can stack up to 10%, and some added bonus to our armor. This makes us passively tankier all the time.
- Dark Pact, acting as our most frequently used defensive cooldown, aside from Demonic Circle: Teleport, providing us with a massive absorb on ourselves, and is the most valuable when dampening is at its lowest.
- Frequent Donor increases our survivability from the cooldown reduction on Dark Pact, providing us with more uptime on it. This talent is also great against setup compositions, especially into Subtlety Rogues, allowing us to save ourselves quite often.
Another potential flex change involves choosing Mortal Coil or Howl of Terror.
- Mortal Coil is our preferred default pick, granting us an additional Crowd Control effect on the incapacitate Diminishing Returns category that does not break on damage. Although this spell becomes quite versatile in how you choose to use it, it’s more preferred to use on your kill target, typically out of a stun, to keep the pressure rolling.
- Howl of Terror becomes more niche than in Dragonflight, as you can’t fear Windwalker Monk‘s images from Storm, Earth, and Fire, and should be picked against Subtlety Rogue based matchups where you want to deny the opposing team’s setups. This option is also more prevalent when playing our Diabolist tree, as we can reduce its cooldown to 25 seconds.
There will then be a few points which can be moved around depending on the composition that you are facing.
For your flexible class talents, Fel Domination or Teachings of the Black Harvest can be more swapped around with other talents offered to us. This is dependent on your matchup and current composition played.
- Nightmare to make sure our Fear does not break as easily from our dots.
- Darkfury if you need more uptime on Shadowfury to disrupt your opponents, and for it to possibly hit more targets as this increases its radius.
Demonology Spec Talents
For our spec talents, most of these will be mandatory as you advance onto each tier. Some of the most noteworthy talents are:
- Power Siphon, which involves sacrificing up to 2 Wild Imps to buff your next Demonbolt.
- Doom, which is constantly spread across multiple targets to benefit out of Pact of the Ered’ruin. This will occasionally summon a Doomguard when Doom expires as a solid boost to your damage.
- Summon Vilefiend is way more impactful to press, as it buffs the damage coming out of our minions and pets when Shadowtouched is played. Additionally, we receive The Houndmaster’s Gambit for even more damage out of Dreadstalkers while Summon Vilefiend is active. With Demonic Tyrant buffing all minion and pet damage, this makes it extremely valuable to use while both Dreadstalkers and Vilefiend is up.
If you prefer playing as Diabolist, this requires you to swap out Blood Invocation for Reign of Tyranny, as our Diabolist Hero tree focuses on buffing our Demonic Tyrant damage.
- Blood Invocation is more impactful with Soul Harvester, making our Demonbolt instants stronger when Power Siphon is used.
- Reign of Tyranny suits the playstyle of Diabolist, as Demonic Tyrant buffs up to 5 Wild Imps and deals more damage depending on how many demons it buffed.
Demonology Warlock PvP Talents
Regardless of what Hero build you choose, your default PvP talents are:
- Master Summoner is mandatory to your damage profile, helping you summon your strongest minions faster. This also reduces the cooldown on Call Dreadstalkers.
- Impish Instincts allows you to use Demonic Circle: Teleport more often whenever you are affected by melee attacks.
- Nether Ward reflects any incoming spell back to the original caster, and is super useful against caster comps, or Feral Druids with Cyclone, to change the direction of the game into your favor.
In most situations, you will be swapping to/from Impish Instincts or Nether Ward, depending on the matchup and which talents are required, to some of these optional talents:
- Observer instead of Impish Instincts against double caster compositions for more throughput.
- Gateway Mastery when playing on larger maps, especially Tol’viron Arena.
- Soul Rip against setup compositions, primarily against Jungle Cleave to reduce damage we take and healing they take while active. This typically involves removing Nether Ward to reap its benefits.
