What’s New for Beast Mastery Hunters in The War Within?

Beast Mastery Hunters have access to a similar toolkit as they had in Dragonflight, but now benefit from exciting new additions in both our class and specialization trees.

Entering into our class tree, we notice massive enhancements to our toolkit, including Padded Armor for an additional charge of Survival of the Fittest, and the ability to choose Binding Shot, Scatter Shot, Intimidation, and High Explosive Trap all at the same time.

Moving over to our spec tree, we notice a lot of node rearrangement, and the addition of some new talents like Venomous Bite that make our single-target burst coming out of our pet even better than before. Additionally, we can now select both Bloodshed and A Murder of Crows in our default loadout, as they are no longer part of a choice node. This again makes our single-target damage significantly stronger, increasing our kill potential during Crowd Control setups. Lastly, we have some commonly selected talent points that require only 1 talent point instead 2, especially with War Orders, Dire Command, and Stomp, giving us a wider array of talents we can pick up.

As for the bread and butter of The War Within, we now have two Hero trees that we can choose from. For Beast Mastery Hunters, these are Dark Ranger and Pack Leader, with Dark leader being the preferred pick in the current meta.

All in all, the identity of Beast Mastery Hunter remains the same as it was in Dragonflight. You’ll be constantly rotating between Barbed Shot, Kill Command, and occasionally Bestial Wrath to build momentum for your team. This spec is very simple compared to most specializations and is definitely an easy pick-up for anyone interested in trying out rated PvP.

Hero Tree: Dark Ranger

Dark Ranger introduces Black Arrow into the mix of damaging abilities, which gives us an additional DoT effect we can throw out on our preferred target for some solid damage and to occasionally generate a Barbed Shot charge. With more Barbed Shot charges, your Kill Command uptime is increased, and you have an easier time maintaining your pet Frenzy stacks.

If Black Arrow procs a Barbed Shot charge, we deliver some heavy direct damage on our selected target, while also receiving a damage boost to both ourselves and our pet for a short duration. This is all thanks to our Withering Fire endcap node.

Hero Tree: Pack Leader

On the other hand we have Pack Leader, which revolves around buffing our constant flow of Kill Commands due to our hallmark node Vicious Hunt. A majority of these talents here are reliant on your pet attacks, giving you some slight buffs to your Kill Command as well as more uptime and damage on Barbed Shot from Furious Assault if it does end up proccing.

Overall, this build is currently underwhelming in comparison to Dark Ranger, as the throughput we can deliver is quite marginal and does not provide us enough consistent damage and occasional burst damage that is necessary to finish off games.
