Pet Specializations
If you aren’t familiar with what makes Hunter pets different, there are three categories of Hunter pets. Depending on the family of pet you tame and use, these all provide us unique effects that will make us stronger in PvP.
Cunning
- Pathfinding to increase our mobility creep.
- Master’s Call to remove all root and snare effects off the target we use it on for 4 seconds. This is most effective if you or your ally need to kite, need more uptime on your target, or to help your healer escape the Solar Beam + Mass Entanglement combo.
Ferocity
- Predator’s Thirst for more survivability on yourself and your pet.
- Primal Rage is most effective in PvP combat for Battleground Blitz, as it buffs our team’s Haste by a hefty amount when active.
Tenacity
- Endurance Training to passively increase you and your pets Health by 5%.
- Fortitude of the Bear reacting as a psuedo Emblem, increasing you and your pets Health by 20% and healing you for the same amount.
Cunning Pets
For our Cunning specialization, this is our most preferred as Master’s Call provides us with the most consistent benefits in PvP combat. We have a variety of pets located in the Cunning specialization, to which the most optimal pet to choose from is a Raptor, as you will be looking to grab the Undead located in the Shoaljai Tar Pits in Nazmir.
However, with Retributon Paladins using Wake of Ashes more frequently in The War Within, this will apply a lengthy 5 seconds stun on any Undead target that it hits. This means you’ll want to substitute this pet for any of these listed below:
- Non-Undead Raptor
- Hyena
- Rodent
The reason why we select these types of pets is because they are all part of one hunter pet family. This pet family provides us with the Mortal Wounds effect, which places a healing reduction debuff on the target our pet is attacking.
Ferocity Pets
Alternatively, you may opt in a Ferocity pet only in niche cases where you are playing Battleground Blitz and don’t have a class that can use a Bloodlust effect, which includes Evokers, Mages, and Shamans.
Here are the different types of pets that you can choose from that also have the Mortal Wounds effect.
Tenacity Pets
Lastly, our Tenacity specialization may come in handy if you want to strengthen your own survivability with Fortitude of the Bear and Endurance Training. Tenacity pets are great against Subtlety Rogues, as you can use Fortitude of the Bear while in stun effects to reduce the chance of dying.
