What’s New for Balance Druids in The War Within?
Balance Druids have received a variety of changes located in their talent trees, with most of them catering towards our new Hero talent trees. However, we do have some changes worth noting in our Druid and Balance trees.
For our Druid tree, we now have Oakskin to increase the effectiveness of Barkskin, granting us a 30% damage reduction instead of 20%. Additionally, we now have more talents that provide us with flat out buffs to our core damaging spells, primarily Starlight Conduit and Lore of the Grove, which make it almost impossible to pick up Call of the Druid like before in Dragonflight.
Switching to our Balance tree, we now have Stellar Amplification, which applies a debuff on the target hit by Starsurge that buffs all of our periodic DoTs for at least 5 seconds. This can be extended up to 20 seconds, making it important to maintain this debuff on our preferred kill target to boost our throughput. If you are playing a rot composition, you may want to constantly apply Starsurge on multiple targets to optimize your overall DoT damage.
Now, we have our Hero talent trees, to which we have two we can choose from; Keeper of the Grove and Elune’s Chosen. The latter is suggested for beginners, as it only adds to your basic rotation without much change in gameplay. Keeper of the Grove on the other hand, is the more preferred Hero build, but is more advanced in comparison to Elune’s Chosen. This requires you to pay attention to buff maintenance and use your cooldowns a bit differently to crush your opponents when Incarnation is active.
Balance Druid Playstyle
Comparative to Dragonflight, Balance Druid feels relatively similar to how it did before. What makes Balance Druid unique is how well they can abuse Cyclone compared to any other Druid specialization. This is one of the main reasons why Balance Druid remains relevant in the competitive scene to this day.
You’ll continue to play around your Cyclone casts to temporarily pause the game in your favor, rotate between Eclipses to buff our damaging spells, and set up Incarnation burst windows for heavy frontloaded damage.
