Focus and Arena Macros

These macros follow the same idea as party macros and eliminate the need to manually change targets every time. They are very useful for CC and interrupts. While focus macros are easier to get used to and could be sufficient in most cases, arena macros are a lot more versatile as they allow you to interact with literally any opponent in the game at any point. The downside of making arena macros is the number of binds you will have to allocate. Not to mention, they are a lot more difficult to get used to. You could start by using focus macros for most of your abilities and arena macros for some of the most important CC, and expand the more you get used to it. As a Mage, the spells that benefit the most from such macros are Counterspell, Slow, and Polymorph.

Party & Mouseover Macros

As a Frost Mage, you have Remove Curse as a powerful utility spell, and is necessary to remove Hex from Shamans or Amplified Curses from Warlocks. One way to streamline this process is with party 1 and party 2 macros. If you’re unfamiliar with these, “party 1” refers to the person at the top of your party frames, and “party 2” is the second person.

If party macros seem too overwhelming to grasp at first, direct your attention on Mouseover macros, allowing you to use a directed spell on any target you hover over with your mouse.

Stopcasting

In cases where you play Ice Floes, you’ll need to add this into your arsenal of macro. The reasoning for this is to make sure Ice Block is usable without any delay, especially in cases where you are in the middle of casting without having a way to cancel its effect. You can also include a separate /stopcasting macro in cases where you play Ice Floes, and want to bait Shadow Word: Death from a Priest to guarantee that your Crowd Control will land.

Cancelaura

As a Mage, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on cancelaura macros. For our first macro, this allows you to leave Ice Block early, and should be determined on two key situations: when you want to execute your target, or when your healer has safely recovered you from danger.

Additionally, our second macro is crucial to your success, as it allowing you to remove Alter Time in situations where it becomes a net loss in positioning or for your character’s health.
