Table of Contents
The War Within expands our arsenal of talent options, which include our new talent hero talent trees, Keeper of the Grove and Elune’s Chosen. With Elune’s Chosen being relatively lackluster in the current meta, let’s go more into detail on how to best allocate your Keeper of the Grove talent points.
Hero Talents: Keeper of the Grove | Default Build
Keeper of the Grove is currently our go to Hero tree, granting us a bit more optimization in terms of how we can deliver our burst with Force of Nature, while including more ways to throw out more sustained cleave damage aside from having Sunfire and Moonfire do all the work.
In order to maximize your cleave damage, you’ll be utilizing Dream Burst, which is our centerpiece node from this tree. After using Force of Nature, your next 3 Wrath or Starfire casts will spread some AoE damage to any target near the one you hit.
Now, we have some talents here that are worth covering in more detail.
- Protective Growth gives you minor damage reduction whenever you have a Regrowth HoT effect. This adds a bit to your survivability, and is commonly used from our Blooming Infusion proc.
- Blooming Infusion makes some of our core spells instant cast after every 5 Regrowth and Starsurge casts. From our instant Regrowth casts, if we use it on ourselves we become tankier thanks to Protective Growth.
- Harmony of the Grove buffs all sources of damage when our treants are out, making it crucial to have these available during Incarnation.
However, you can opt for Grove’s Inspiration instead of Potent Enchantments for higher consistent damage coming out of Wrath and Starfire, while also buffing our Regrowth healing.
Hero Talents: Keeper of the Grove | Rated BG & BG Blitz Build
Balance Druids are notoriously known as one of the best if not the best BG spec to play as, and with it comes a completely different build that centers around hefty cleave damage. This build not only selects talents like Aetherial Kindling that greatly help us with maximizing our AoE damage, but we select talents like Rake and Feline Swiftness that can help us cap bases easier, while increasing our movement speed when we really need it while in stealth.
Now, here are the talents located in this build that are most effective in order to optimize their effects.
- Aetherial Kindling makes Starfall better to use after you have thrown out Sunfire and Moonfire on multiple targets to extend their duration.
- Astral Communion reduces the amount of Astral Power we spend on either Starsurge or Starfall, but only after entering an Eclipse (Solar or Lunar). Additionally, our rotation feels more fluid since we receive more maximum Astral power.

Druid Class Talents
In the Druid Class talent tree, most of your talent choices will be mandatory when advancing onto each tier. Here are some of the noteworthy talents you will be using in The War Within.
- Frenzied Regeneration provides more efficient defensive utility with its periodic healing effect in Bear Form.
- Wild Charge for its dynamic mobility options, granting you unique effects depending on your current form status.
- Cyclone will continue to be our main source of Crowd Control.
- Lycara’s Teachings gives you more baseline Mastery and allows you to itemize solely on Haste.
It’s important to understand why control based spells are selected in our default loadout. Here will list our default control talents and their effectiveness as a Balance Druid.
- Typhoon will work as a knockback effect, and is effective especially on Z-axis maps.
- Mighty Bash is usually the default pick. Incapacitating Roar sees less value due to this ability breaking very fast from our DoT effects.
- Mass Entanglement is the default over Ursol’s Vortex. Mass Entanglement will allow you to apply a Root into Solar Beam on Healers. It is also a good choice against melee cleaves for additional Crowd Control, keeping them off you with no DR, and can be strong into Demonology Warlocks and Beast Mastery Hunters to keep their pets off.
As for our flexible talents, you’ll be occasionally swapping out of Well-Honed Instincts and Ursoc’s Spirit for Rejuvenation and Remove Corruption. You’ll mainly want Remove Corruption against Shamans to dispel Hex and Warlocks to dispel curses enhanced with Amplify Curse.
Balance Spec Talents
In the Druid Class talent tree, most of your talent choices will be mandatory when advancing onto each tier. Here are some of the noteworthy talents you will be using in The War Within.
- Shooting Stars has a chance to proc from your DoTs, dealing a decent amount of damage over the course of the game and generates some Astral power in the process. You’ll be wanting to throw out as many DoTs as possible to increase its overall damage output, and to proc Orbit Breaker more often if selected.
- Solstice makes Shooting Stars fall more often for 6 seconds after entering an Eclipse.
- Solar Beam is our primary interrupt spell that’s on a one minute cooldown.
- Celestial Alignment and Incarnation: Chosen of Elune are our major offensive cooldowns, as these will grant the bonus from both Eclipses, while granting a Haste and Critical Strike modifier when Incarnation is used. Elune’s Guidance synergizes well with these cooldowns, allowing you to cast Starsurge or Starfall more often when Incarnation is active.
However, there is variability between some talent choices. Let’s go into more detail about the effectiveness of these talents, and when you should use them in a specific matchup or composition played.
If you choose to play Rated Battlegrounds or Battleground Blitz, we highly recommend removing talent points from Denizen of the Dream as well as Stellar Amplification for Aetherial Kindling and Astronomical Impact. These two talents greatly enhance our AoE pressure. For any additional talents, these are noted in our Rated BG / BG Blitz talent build above.
Another flexible talent choice is located in the final tier, as you swap from / to Denizen of the Dream to Astral Communion. This change is more towards preference, and is also recommended to play as a beginner.
Balance Druid PvP Talents
For Balance Druid PvP Talents, our default loadout is Moonkin Aura, Owlkin Adept, and High Winds.
- Moonkin Aura increases your Spell Critical Strike chance by 2% when Starsurge is used, stacking up to 3 times. Another quality of life effect of this PvP talent is that this buff applies to all nearby allies, and only removes one stack per purge. This acts as a good dispel protection ability for Balance Druid compositions, while also being a solid damage buff for your team.
- Owlkin Adept allows us to stack Owlkin Frenzy twice. This can be used to enter into Solar Eclipse quicker, or to make our Cyclone casts faster.
- High Winds has been drastically changed from how it used to be in Dragonflight, as it now increases the range of Cyclone instead of reducing the affected target’s healing and damage dealt. In combination with Astral Influence, it will be way less risky to land Cyclone.
For your flexible talents, these can be swapped with High Winds based on the composition you are facing.
- Thorns is best picked against double melee comps in 3v3, or in 2v2 when facing up against melee and healer mirrors. This can help reduce the sense of danger by deterring enemy players from attacking you or an ally.
- Faerie Swarm is a 30-second cooldown Disarm. This is a great option against melee cleaves or Subtlety Rogues, allowing you to shut down their burst windows either pre-emptively or reactively.
- Tireless Pursuit could be promising if you want more mobility and want to kite around more. However, this may result in a lot of form shifting and could be a detriment to your overall throughput.
- Star Burst is mandatory in Rated Battlegrounds and Battleground Blitz, as it summons stars nearby while Starfall is active. This deals some solid AoE cleave to nearby targets once an enemy touches it, generates you Astral Power, and temporarily knocks all targets affected up in the air.
