Introduction

So what is a Diminishing Return? Diminishing Returns is an effect that is important in PvP, and results in a spell casted, with the same control category, to be reduced in duration if used on a player multiple times. If a control spell is used a second time, it reduces half in duration. If used a third time, reduced by half again, and then immune to that control category from any additional control spell of that category until the Diminishing Returns effect resets.

The Diminishing Returns effect has an internal cooldown of 18 seconds after the Crowd Control ends on your target. Most addons, Gladius, Diminish, and S-Arena, show these Diminishing Return durations, making it easier to prevent any reduction on your spell as long as you know the Diminishing Return effect of the spell you choose to use. In order to learn more about what spells belong to each category, down below will list all the current Cataclysm Classic Diminishing Return categories and the spells associated with each Diminishing Return effect.
